Take a look at the newest offerings from the luxury <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brands, and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> everything seems strongly linked to the house archives. It could be a house&#8217;s classic handbag originally launched in the seventies, which has been upgraded and reintroduced with a contemporary finish. Or it could be a Hollywood actor re-wearing an old look from the early <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">noughties <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the red carpet. Retro revival seems to be the flavour in luxury over the last couple of seasons. Here are some noteworthy examples&#8230;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Dior couture revisits YSL&#8217;s Trap\u00e8ze line<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At Dior <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spring\/Summer 2025 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">couture showcase, the brand&#8217;s artistic <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">explored the idea of transformation inherent in creation. She was inspired by the Trap\u00e8ze<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> line\u2013the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">young Yves Saint Laurent&#8217;s very first collection for Dior, presented on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">30th January, 1958\u2013the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pieces evoke dresses beneath which the body disappears. The d\u00e9fil\u00e9 also revealed an array of encounters and unpredictable metamorphoses in wonderland, where the here and now continually play hide-and-seek. The crinoline proved to be an extraordinary breeding ground for memories, yielding to the most excessive fantasies and motifs. Reconcile Michele&#8217;s more-is-more worldview with 80 of the industry\u2019s most skilled <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">artisans, some of whom<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been working with the house for 50<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> years, and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you&#8217;ve got a virtuoso collection. Enormous, multi-tiered and exaggerated gowns enriched with many historical references and archival touch points <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">make <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this outing thrilling and compelling in equal measure. A sweeping dark taffeta gown with a black velvet <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bodice, which<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> took 860 hours of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">handwork, was<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> one of the seminal looks. Even for Valentino&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pre-Fall 2025<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> collection, the designer drew inspiration from the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mod &#8217;60s, sending<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out short shift dresses and skirt suits peppered with houndstooth and cherry motifs. A leopard trench was a nod to the founder, Garavani&#8217;s jet set era and kaftans embroidered with crystals and cinched at the waist with butterfly applique belts evoked Michele&#8217;s signature magpie aesthetic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Versace&#8217;s print revival<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baroque and Bloom prints have sublimated the hallowed archives of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Versace, and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the house&#8217;s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spring\/Summer 2025<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> outing, Donatella Versace brought back some of these epochal prints with an of-the-moment flair. Print, the visual vernacular of Versace, epitomised the spontaneous spirit of the collection. Casually collaged on the body in clashing compositions, five emblematic graphics contrasted and interacted with one another in effervescent exchanges, paired with blocks of colour. A Medusa cameo print with gold accents adapts the collection\u2019s palette of browns. Donatella\u2019s flower of preference, a wild rose <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">print, played<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with shadow effects across pale pastel, brown and powder blue interpretations. The colours reverberated in a poppy print, which was also explored within the frames of the Barocco. A romantic wave print interrupted the floral flow in soft zigzags. The sensory overdrive of pattern was celebrated in a painterly exotic Barocco print in which the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">house\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">signifying graphic is redrawn as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">multicoloured <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">florals. Moreover, there was also a subtle throwback to the platform sandals of the Phoebe Philo period. Chlo\u00e9 has been renowned for \u201cIt\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bags\u2013from<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Philo\u2019s padlocked Paddington to Hannah MacGibbon\u2019s Marcie hobo <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bag\u2013and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Kamali ushered in another MacGibbon-era style, the Paraty, a trapezoidal satchel with uniquely shaped handles and gold hardware, first introduced in 2008. Other key accessories include gold-tone logo belts that spell out \u201cChlo\u00e9\u201d in loopy <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cursive\u2013a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">deep cut to the label\u2019s namesake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Gucci brings back its archival luggage and bags<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gucci, under<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the aegis of Sabato De <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sarno, was<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> inspired by the archival Gucci<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> luggage\u2013valigeria\u2013made<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from brushed leather that\u2019s bonded with the Gucci logo, with detachable pieces. Moreover, the newly unveiled version of the Gucci Jackie 1961 in the brand&#8217;s Pre-Fall <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2025 line-up<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> strongly nods in favour of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201970s style, evoking<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Jackie Kennedy and the decade&#8217;s jet set glamour. For Fendi&#8217;s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spring\/Summer 2025<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> menswear collection, Silvia Venturini Fendi, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">artistic director <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Accessories and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Menswear, found<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> herself looking into the house&#8217;s rich archives. The distinctive Selleria stitching was reimagined as a check on a brown leather overcoat and recontextualised into a denim besides featured on peekaboo bags. Looking inward for inspiration, Silvia <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">offered homage<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the brand\u2019s rich house codes that predate the first men\u2019s collection in 1990. At a closer look, the line-up astutely exemplified the timelessness of the century-old Selleria stitch\u2013 a technique inherited by the Fendi family from a Roman family of master saddlers. The house\u2019s signature stitching is re-interpreted as a monogram, threaded as a stripe or tonal FF logo through linen, denim, and plush textures. Contoured elements blending old and new twist the concord of the garments. Sleeves slashed at the elbow can be worn long or short, and asymmetric silk knits unfasten to reveal an airy segmented shoulder.
