Tanzania eyes textile transformation to unlock untapped potentials

Tanzania exports over 70 per cent of its cotton lint but captures only a fraction of the sector’s value, missing out on local job creation, industrial growth, and export earnings.
However, the country is now planning to retain the value locally.
If the 2026/27 budget allocates funds to develop SEZs, Tanzania is also reportedly pushing to attract foreign investments to develop the sector.
